HERITAGE + TRUST 04

From trading through wartime Britain to helping supply the UK’s emerging supermarkets, the history of Demos Ciclitira Ltd is deeply connected to the evolution of the food industry itself.

During the Second World War, imports of dried fruit were heavily restricted under government rationing. Sadly, our founder Demos Ciclitira passed away in 1943 before free trade returned.

In the late 1950s, his sons Dennis and John rebuilt the business, expanding sourcing far beyond Greece and developing strong partnerships in countries including Turkey and Australia, relationships that still continue today.

There is even an Olympic connection in our history.

Demos’ cousin, Kostas Ciclitira, competed in the London Olympics in 1908, winning two silver medals before going on to win Olympic gold for Greece in Stockholm in 1912.

More than a century later, the same natural dried fruits remain at the heart of what we do.
