APRICOTS

Apricots originate from China and were brought to the West by Alexander the Great. Turkey is the main supplier of dried apricots for the UK market. Dried apricots are also produced in USA and South Africa, as well as Iran. Dried apricots are typically treated with sulphur dioxide as to preserve the fruit. This also has the effect of creating the orange colour. They are also available as ‘natural’ apricots but have a dark brown appearance.
